Mason Mount, a Chelsea midfielder, has been signed by Manchester United for an initial fee of £55 million.

After passing a medical on Monday at Carrington, Mount has signed a contract for five years with the option to extend for an additional year.

Last week, United and Chelsea reached an agreement that could also include additional payments of £5 million.
Before reaching an agreement with the Blues, United had three bids rejected for Mount. It is understood that the add-ons are heavily contingent on the club’s future success and winning trophies.
With the 24-year-old out of contract at Stamford Bridge in 2024, Erik ten Hag made Mount his top priority in order to add a younger, more energetic midfielder this summer.
Mason Mount has signed a contract with Manchester United that can be extended for an additional year until June 2028.
The midfielder, who is 24 years old, has made 279 appearances for the club, netting 58 goals and 53 assists. Chelsea‘s Player of the Year for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons went to the Champions League winner.
He has 36 England caps and helped lead his country to the 2021 European Championship final.
Mason Mount remarked, “It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.
“Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. Having met with the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited for the seasons ahead, and am ready for the hard work expected here.
“I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United.”
The Manchester United football director John Murtough stated:

“His style of play and attributes are a perfect fit for this squad, and we all believe that he will only improve further working with Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.
“Mason himself is a world-class player but he also has the ability to improve the players around him through his game intelligence and tactical awareness.
“We were particularly impressed by his strong desire to join United, and his thirst for further success, as we push to drive up our performance levels next season and beyond.”
