Threads app: Meta’s rival to Twitter, surpasses 10 million users within few hours

  • Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta’s parent company, Facebook, says that more than 10 million people have signed up for Threads, Meta’s alternative to Twitter, within a few hours of its launch.

Threads, available on Apple and Android app stores in 100 country, arose as the biggest contender to Elon Musk-claimed Twitter, which has confronted various likely opponents without being replaced in spite of its proven and documented struggles.

The app, which is free to use right now, has already attracted notable media outlets like The Washington Post and The Economist, in addition to Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Hugh Jackman.

Zuckerberg personally responded to new users during the launch, including an exchange with American MMA fighter Jon Jones.

In an emblematic move, he shared a Spiderman meme on Twitter, underscoring the likenesses between the two stages. Additionally, Zuckerberg made a subtle dig at Musk by referring to Twitter‘s failure to develop an app for public conversations with more than one billion users.

Threads starts off in a good position because it makes use of Instagram‘s vast user base, which includes more than two billion people.

Meta wants to make Threads the preferred method of communication for politicians, businesses, and celebrities. It wants to take advantage of Twitter users’ desire for a different option in the chaos caused by Musk’s ownership.

If influential Instagram users like the Kardashians, Justin Bieber, or Lionel Messi embrace the platform, financial analyst Brian Wieser believes that Threads could quickly flourish.

Analyst Jasmine Engberg from Insider Intelligence also highlights that Threads just needs one out of four Instagram month to month users to equal Twitter’s size.
