Lagos NNPP Praises Gov Yusuf for Re-enthroning Sanusi as Emir of Kano

The Lagos State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has lauded Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State for his role in preserving the state’s rich cultural heritage.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday, the NNPP’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Richard Benson, commended Governor Yusuf for reinstating Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano. Benson highlighted that this move is significant in maintaining the sanctity of Kano’s traditions.

Benson also acknowledged the contributions of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, for his efforts in upholding these traditions.

“We, the New Nigeria People’s Party, Lagos State chapter, commend Governor Abba Yusuf and our National Leader Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, along with the Kano State House of Assembly, for their dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of Kano,” Benson stated. “This re-enthronement reflects a commitment to protecting the core values and traditions of the ancient city, much to the delight of its people.”

He further emphasized the importance of safeguarding Kano’s cultural heritage against political manipulation. Benson expressed optimism about continued progress in Kano, the only state governed by the NNPP, and urged party leaders, including Yusuf and Kwankwaso, to collaborate in making Kano a model for other states.

Benson’s comments come after Governor Yusuf signed the amended Kano State Emirates Council bill into law on May 23. The new law dissolved the previously established Emirate Council and reinstated Sanusi, who was deposed in 2020 by the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on grounds of insubordination.

The previous law, enacted in 2019, had divided Kano into five Emirates: Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye. The new amendment, however, reverts these changes and restores Sanusi to his former position as the Emir of Kano.
