Sam Amadi: “Why I Will Sing the New National Anthem”

Sam Amadi, the Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has clarified his stance on the reinstated National Anthem. He stated his reasons for choosing to sing the anthem, despite reservations about its reintroduction.

Amadi, who is also the former Executive Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), took to his X handle on Saturday to express his views. He acknowledged that the new National Anthem has now become law, which necessitates his compliance.

“I will sing the new (old) National Anthem. It’s now the law,” Amadi declared, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal mandates. He recognized the significance of honoring the anthem as it has been formally reinstated.

However, Amadi also expressed his discontent with the rationale and the process behind the anthem’s reintroduction. “I deplore the logic of bringing it back now and the manner it was brought back,” he noted, indicating his dissatisfaction with the timing and method of the change.

Despite his reservations, Amadi highlighted the importance of respecting the rule of law. “But unless the court nullifies the law, I will honour it,” he affirmed. His commitment to upholding legal standards remains steadfast, underscoring his belief in the judicial process.

In conclusion, Amadi called on all Nigerians to honor the new National Anthem, regardless of personal opinions about its reinstatement. “And everyone should honour it,” he urged, promoting a unified approach to respecting the nation’s legal decisions.
