Anambra Police Deploy Operatives to Prevent Labour Strike

The Anambra State Police Command has deployed officers to strategic locations across the state to thwart any attempts to enforce the strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). In a press release, the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, affirmed the command’s alignment with the federal government’s stance, which has declared the strike illegal.

Ikenga emphasized the police’s commitment to upholding public safety and preventing any disruptions. The statement read: “The Federal Government has declared the planned strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress as illegal and premature. The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to enforce legal recommendations and calls for caution to prevent a breach of public safety and peace.”

He further noted that police operatives have been strategically positioned to prevent any miscreants from using the strike as an opportunity to cause disorder. While recognizing the rights of organized labour to advocate for workers’ interests, Ikenga stressed the need for adherence to laws governing such activities.

Residents are encouraged to continue their daily activities while remaining vigilant and security-conscious. The command also urged citizens to report any security-related incidents through their helplines and the ‘npf rescue me app,’ available for free on Android and Apple iOS platforms.
