PDP Delays Inauguration of Edo Governorship Campaign Council Amidst Strike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the indefinite postponement of the inauguration of the Edo State Governorship Election National Campaign Council. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the postponement was attributed to the ongoing nationwide industrial action led by labor unions.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP expressed regret over the need to delay the inauguration but emphasized the necessity due to the prevailing circumstances. Ologunagba assured that a new date for the event would be communicated in due course.

Despite the setback, the PDP urged all members of the campaign council, party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters in Edo State and nationwide to remain steadfast in their commitment to the success of the party and its gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo. The party reaffirmed its dedication to achieving victory in the upcoming governorship election slated for September 21, 2024, in Edo State.

The strike, declared by organized labor, brought government and private businesses to a standstill in Abuja, with nearly 100 percent compliance observed across government ministries, departments, and agencies. The directive issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), along with their affiliates, underscored the widespread impact of the labor action.
