Akwa Ibom Government Takes Precautionary Measures Against Cholera Outbreak

The Akwa Ibom State Government has proactively implemented precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of cholera within the state, as announced by the Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Umoh.

In an interview with NAN in Uyo on Friday, Prof Umoh assured the public that the government has initiated several preventive actions across all 31 local government areas. These measures include intensive sensitization campaigns aimed at educating residents about the importance of maintaining both personal and environmental hygiene.

Umoh emphasized that the state government has taken steps to ensure primary health centers are adequately stocked with essential medications in preparation for any potential cholera outbreak.

Currently, there have been no reported cases of cholera in Akwa Ibom State. Despite this, Umoh advised residents to take proactive steps such as boiling water before drinking, regular handwashing with soap and clean water (especially after using the toilet and before eating), and thoroughly washing fruits and other food items before consumption.

These efforts underscore the state government’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the well-being of its residents against infectious diseases like cholera.
