APC Denounces PDP’s Allegations Regarding Rivers State Government

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently refuted and condemned allegations made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) concerning an alleged plan to forcefully take over the government of Rivers State. The APC dismissed these claims as baseless and nonsensical, emphasizing that the PDP failed to substantiate its accusations with any credible evidence.

Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Thursday addressing the accusations leveled by the PDP. Morka criticized the PDP for distorting and exaggerating purported comments made by Chief Tony Okocha, the chairman of the Rivers State APC Caretaker Committee. He asserted that rather than addressing the root causes of the crisis in Rivers State, the PDP opted to propagate falsehoods about an imaginary scheme to interfere with the state government.

The APC’s statement highlighted Governor Sim Fubara as the central figure responsible for instigating the crisis in Rivers State. Morka accused Governor Fubara of consistently undermining democratic and constitutional governance by disregarding court decisions, usurping legislative powers, and improperly allocating public funds without due process. According to Morka, Governor Fubara’s actions have demonstrated a blatant disregard for the rule of law and democratic principles since assuming office.

Furthermore, Morka criticized Governor Fubara for unilaterally declaring the Rivers State House of Assembly invalid and subsequently establishing an illegitimate assembly in clear violation of Nigeria’s constitution. He emphasized that such actions by the governor have severely undermined the democratic rights of the people of Rivers State, eroding confidence in effective and accountable governance.

In conclusion, the APC’s statement underscored Governor Fubara’s responsibility for exacerbating the crisis in Rivers State through autocratic and unconstitutional conduct. The party called for adherence to democratic norms and the rule of law, urging Governor Fubara to respect constitutional provisions and uphold the separation of powers.

This response from the APC reflects ongoing political tensions and allegations of misconduct surrounding governance in Rivers State, highlighting broader concerns about democratic governance and constitutional adherence in Nigeria.
