Edo Guber: Labour Party Criticizes ‘Obidient’ Movement for Supporting APC Candidate, Okpebholo

The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party has criticized the ‘Obidient’ movement for endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, in the forthcoming state election.

Sam Uruopa, the Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary, expressed disbelief and disappointment at the movement’s decision. He stated, “It is absurd to hear that the Obidient movement is supporting Okpebholo, just as some members also claimed to support Asue Ighodalo. The Obidient movement is synonymous with the Labour Party and comprises integral members of our party.”

Uruopa pointed out the inconsistency in the movement’s actions, referencing past challenges faced by the Labour Party. “They have forgotten so soon how the party was denied the use of the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium before the presidential election. How can these people now claim to be Obidient members and support Okpebholo or Ighodalo? They have clearly lost direction and do not understand their actions at this point. They cannot be part of the Obidient movement and simultaneously work against our party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata.”

The ‘Obidient’ movement in Edo recently declared their support for the APC and its candidate, Okpebholo. This follows another faction of the movement endorsing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, a few weeks earlier.

The group, which includes members from the Edo South Senatorial District, stated their support for Okpebholo was due to his strong connections with the people.
