Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Counters Court Ruling Over DSS

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), contested the Abuja Federal High Court’s recent ruling, stating that Kanu’s legal team had presented ample evidence.

On Monday, Justice James Omotosho dismissed Kanu’s N1 billion lawsuit against the Nigerian government and the Department of State Services (DSS). The judge ruled that there was no credible evidence to support Kanu’s claim that the DSS denied him access to his lawyers.

Justice Omotosho stated that Kanu had failed to provide substantial evidence proving that the DSS and its Director General, Yusuf Bichi, had violated his fundamental rights.

Kanu, represented by Ejimakor, had filed the lawsuit alleging that the Nigerian government, Attorney-General of the Federation, DSS, and Bichi refused him access to his legal team. The originating summons, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1633/2023, was dated and filed on December 4, 2023.

In response to the ruling, Ejimakor announced plans to appeal, asserting that substantial evidence had been submitted, some of which is publicly available.

Speaking with GISTLEGIT, Ejimakor stated, “I am already preparing the notice of appeal. The evidence submitted before the court was legion. Some of it is even in the public domain.”
