Babayemi, Ogunniyi, and Other Politicians Defect to APC in Osun
Osun politicians Dotun Babayemi and Akin Ogunniyi have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a public ceremony held in Osogbo on Friday.
Babayemi, a former gubernatorial aspirant for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Ogunniyi, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Accord Party in the 2022 Osun gubernatorial election, were welcomed into the APC at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State. Thousands of supporters and party loyalists attended the event.
Joining them in the defection were former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Shuaib Oyedokun, and Faruq Abbas, the Chief of Staff to the Osun House of Assembly Speaker.
Prominent APC figures, including the immediate past governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and Dr. Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the party, were present to welcome the new members.
This move follows the Osun State PDP’s announcement of Babayemi’s suspension over alleged anti-party activities during the 2022 governorship election.
