BREAKING: Helicopter Carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Crashes in Northwestern Iran

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday afternoon in northwestern Iran. The status of President Raisi and the other passengers remains unclear.

The crash occurred during Raisi’s visit to neighboring Azerbaijan. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site, according to Iran’s Interior Minister.

The official news agency IRNA reported that Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and other local officials were also on board. The semi-official Fars news agency urged Iranians to pray for Raisi amid the unfolding situation.

Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi stated on state TV that authorities are awaiting further details.

President Raisi, 63, elected in 2021, has enforced stricter morality laws, overseen a crackdown on anti-government protests, and engaged in intense nuclear negotiations with world powers.
