Edo Pilgrims Need $60,000 for Hajj 2024 Duty Tour Allowance
The Edo State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board has announced a need for $60,000 to cover Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) and sacrificial animals for its 2024 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
The Edo State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board has revealed that it requires $60,000 to cover the Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) and the cost of sacrificial animals for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. This announcement was made by the board’s chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua, during a visit from Governor Godwin Obaseki in Benin City.
A total of 300 pilgrims, consisting of 164 males and 136 females, will be performing the pilgrimage this year. However, two pilgrims withdrew after the Hajj fare increased from N4.5 million to N8.4 million. The board has asked the state government for financial assistance to meet the $60,000 requirement, which has become a significant burden for the pilgrims.
Sheikh Oyarekhua urged the pilgrims to be patient and to conduct themselves as good ambassadors of Edo State and Nigeria. He praised Governor Obaseki for his consistent support and highlighted the positive impact of his administration on the board’s operations.
Governor Obaseki acknowledged the support of the Muslim community during his tenure and emphasized his commitment to supporting all citizens of Edo State, regardless of their religion. He assured the pilgrims of the government’s support in meeting their obligations for the Hajj pilgrimage.
