EPL: Arteta to Discuss Arsenal’s Stance on VAR Ahead of Crucial Vote
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has announced his intention to discuss with the club their stance on the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system ahead of a Premier League vote scheduled for June 6. The vote will determine whether VAR should be scrapped for the upcoming season, following Wolves’ proposal to discontinue the system after five seasons.
Arteta, who has previously criticized the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) for their handling of VAR, stated on Friday: “I haven’t been part of those meetings. I want to have a meeting with the club next week to understand where these points are coming from and what has transpired in the last few weeks to reach this position.
“And then we’ll decide what our position is as a club and see what happens. They will explain to us what has happened, the points that have been discussed, and what the general feeling is as well. From there, we’ll make a decision.”
Arteta’s comments reflect the ongoing debate within the Premier League about the effectiveness and application of VAR, which has faced significant scrutiny and criticism from players, managers, and fans alike.
