Governor Yusuf Reinstates Sanusi as Emir of Kano, Orders Former Monarchs to Vacate in 48 Hours
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reappointed Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano under new legislation. The governor has given the previous emirs 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand over all Emirate Council properties to the Commissioner of Local Government, who also serves as the State Deputy Governor.
Governor Yusuf has signed the Kano Emirates Bill 2024 into law, effectively repealing the 2019 Emirate Councils Law that significantly altered the state’s historical structure. During the signing, the governor declared that the 2019 law is now obsolete.
The bill signing was attended by key state officials, including the Speaker of the State Assembly, Ismaila Falgore, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam, and Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.
With this action, the State Assembly has successfully carried out one of its constitutional duties by enacting the new law.
