Gunmen Ambush and Abduct Dangote Cement Workers in Edo
Several employees of Dangote Cement were abducted by gunmen on their way home from work on Monday evening. The incident took place in Okpella, Etsako East local government area of Edo State, near the border with Okene in Kogi State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the workers were ambushed and attacked while returning home in a Coaster bus. The gunmen shot at the bus, leaving several workers injured. The attack occurred in a town that also hosts BUA Cement, and it is believed that the assailants were bandits.
The exact number of wounded individuals and the severity of their injuries remain unclear. Witnesses described the chaotic scene, stating, “Other people are in the bush. My colleague has bullet wounds. A Coaster bus filled with staff was attacked at Okpella. Kidnappers. They kidnapped our whole staff bus.”
Michael Odofin, spokesperson for Okpella Cement Plc, confirmed the attack and the abduction of the workers. While he did not provide specific details, he noted that no fatalities were reported. “The attack is still fresh, and no one was killed,” Odofin said.
