Iran Appoints Mohammad Mokhber as Interim President Following Raisi’s Death
In the wake of President Ebrahim Raisi’s tragic demise in a helicopter crash, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has swiftly appointed Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as the country’s acting president.
Effective immediately, Mokhber will assume the role of interim president until further notice. He expressed commitment to continue the duties entrusted to him, following the path set by Raisi, without any interruptions, as reported by state media outlets.
This announcement comes just 24 hours after the untimely passing of President Raisi and his Minister of Foreign Affairs in the helicopter accident.
In response to this development, Iran convened an emergency meeting on Monday to address the transition of leadership.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has extended his condolences to the Iranian government, expressing solidarity during this period of mourning for the loss of President Raisi.
