Major Shakeup in Rivers State Government as Key Commissioners Resign

In a surprising turn of events, the Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Gift Worlu, has resigned from Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet. This unexpected resignation is the latest development in a series of shakeups within the state government, coming just after the resignation of Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, the Commissioner for Education.

Worlu’s resignation was officially communicated through a letter addressed to Governor Fubara via the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo. In the letter, Worlu cited a “toxic” work environment and the controversial attempt to merge the executive and legislative branches of the government as his reasons for leaving.

“I write to formally resign my appointment as the Honourable Commissioner of Housing,” Worlu stated. “This decision, though difficult, is necessitated by the toxic atmosphere that has pervaded our working relationship. The increasing arbitrariness of decisions and actions, including the attempt to fuse the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State, has made my continued service untenable.”

He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration and wished Governor Fubara success in his future endeavors. “I thank you for the opportunity to serve in your government and wish you the best as you continue to steer the ship of state. Kindly accept assurances of my esteemed regards,” Worlu concluded.

This resignation follows closely on the heels of Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, the Rivers Commissioner for Education, who also stepped down from his position recently. Mmom’s resignation was reported earlier by DAILY POST, adding to the growing sense of instability within the Fubara administration.
