Man Utd and Tottenham hero Teddy Sheringham names Arsenal star who will benefit most from Declan Rice signing
Teddy Sheringham has named the Arsenal player who will benefit most from Declan Rice’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
Manchester United and Tottenham hero Sheringham has described Rice as a ‘fantastic signing’ for the Gunners and believes he will ensure Arsenal continue to improve next season.
Mikel Arteta’s side came close to winning their first Premier League title since 2004 last term, sitting top of the table for 248 days before being reeled in by treble-winners Manchester City.
As well as spending more than £100m on Rice, Arsenal have also bolstered Arteta’s squad with the signing of Germany international Kai Havertz and Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber.
Rice made 245 appearances for his boyhood club West Ham and last season captained the Hammers to their first major trophy since 1980.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the most important members of Gareth Southgate’s England squad in recent years and Sheringham expects him to shine at Arsenal.
The ex-England striker also believes Rice will improve standards at the Emirates Stadium and make Gunners captain Martin Odegaard ‘even more dangerous’.
‘You can tell in my voice that the signing of Rice does make Arsenal even better for next season,’ he told Lord Ping. ‘I think that Declan Rice is a fantastic player that will make Arsenal much better.
‘He can come into the team and perform the roles of two players – he can be Xhaka and Partey in one for Arsenal and that frees up their creative players to really hurt teams.
‘You can see how his addition will make Odegaard an even more dangerous player. He will open up Arsenal’s attacking potential even more. I think he is a fantastic acquisition for Arsenal, unfortunately.’
