New Liverpool Manager Arne Slot Eyes Orkun Kokcu as Top Transfer Target

Newly appointed Liverpool manager Arne Slot is keen to bring Turkish midfielder Orkun Kokcu to Anfield for the 2024-25 season. Slot, who took the helm at Liverpool on Monday, previously worked with Kokcu at Feyenoord, helping the midfielder rise to prominence.

Kokcu, who joined Benfica for £26 million in 2023, had an impressive season, playing a crucial role in Benfica’s second-place finish in the Primeira Liga and their victory in the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira. Renowned for his set-piece ability, Kokcu started 33 out of 43 matches, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists.

Turkish news outlet Fotospor reports that Slot has identified Kokcu as his primary transfer target for Liverpool. The Reds, however, are likely to face competition from Turkish club Besiktas for the midfielder’s signature.

Should Kokcu join Liverpool, he would enhance the team’s midfield options, adding depth and quality alongside players like Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, and Ryan Gravenberch.
