Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Informants and Kidnappers in Abuja and Oyo

The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of suspected informants and a kidnapper during recent anti-kidnapping operations in Abuja and Oyo State. The arrests were made following credible intelligence provided by members of the public.

In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Friday, the Army detailed the operations, which were part of its internal security duties aimed at combating kidnapping activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Oyo State.

On May 23, 2024, troops raided a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the Ajegunle Mpape area of the Bwari Area Council in the FCT. The operation targeted a notorious informant known for sheltering kidnappers. During the raid, the troops arrested Ashiru Mohammed and two female accomplices, Raham Abubakar and Sadiya Mohammed. The suspects were found with a Beretta pistol, a pistol magazine, 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition, five ATM cards from different banks, two mobile phones, and suspected illicit drugs. The suspects are currently aiding further investigations.

In a related operation in Oyo State, troops conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Igboho-Igbeti Road in the Igbeti Local Government Area, following an alert about a kidnap syndicate operating around Sepeteri in the Shaki general area. The operation led to the interception of Usman Mohammed Aliyu, a suspected kidnapper found in possession of N400,000. During interrogation, Aliyu confessed to involvement in cattle rustling and kidnapping. The suspects will be handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agencies upon completion of the investigations.

The Army’s statement emphasized that these arrests and seizures are expected to significantly disrupt the activities of kidnap syndicates and other criminal networks in the affected areas.
