Nigerian Army Rescues 386 Civilians from Sambisa Forest After Decade-Long Abduction
In a significant military operation, the Nigerian Army has rescued 386 civilians, primarily women and children, from the Sambisa forest, ten years after their abduction.
Acting GOC 7 Division, Brig. Gen. AGL Haruna, announced the success of the 10-day “Operation Desert Sanity 111,” aimed at clearing the forest of terrorist remnants and providing an opportunity for those willing to surrender. Haruna expressed optimism about more terrorists surrendering following the operation.
Haruna commended the troops’ performance and professionalism, relaying the Chief of Army Staff’s message to maintain their efforts. Some rescued civilians shared their relief after a decade in captivity. Troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, 26 Task Force Brigade, and 199 Special Forces participated in the operation.
