Nigerian Government Excludes Cultists, Certificate Forgers, and Drug Offenders from Student Loan Scheme
The Nigerian government has clarified that individuals convicted of certificate forgery, drug offenses, and involvement in cult activities, among other offenses, are not eligible for the federal government’s student loan scheme, the Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The administrator of the student loan scheme made this announcement via its official handle on Friday, addressing frequently asked questions by prospective applicants.
NELFUND stated that applications from citizens convicted of offenses such as fraud, forgery, drug-related crimes, cultism, felony, or any offenses involving dishonesty would be rejected. Additionally, individuals who have defaulted on previous loans granted by licensed financial institutions, or those found guilty of submitting fake or fraudulent documents, or dismissed for exam malpractices by any school authority, would also be ineligible for the scheme.
NELFUND recently opened the application portal for the first phase of the student loan scheme, which is available to students from federal institutions across the country.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that the student loan scheme is accessed by deserving individuals who uphold integrity and abide by the law.
