Nnamdi Kanu’s Bail Request Denied, Remains in DSS Custody

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed Nnamdi Kanu’s plea for the reinstatement of his revoked bail and his transfer from Department of State Services (DSS) custody to either house arrest or prison.

The judge stated on Monday that Kanu had previously brought the same request before her, which was rejected due to lack of merit.

In her ruling, Justice Nyako affirmed that Kanu had indeed violated his earlier bail conditions by fleeing the country. She noted that his sureties had also renounced their obligations as they were unable to locate him.

Consequently, the judge declared that Kanu’s only recourse was to appeal to the Court of Appeal.

Disagreeing with Kanu’s lead counsel, who cited a Supreme Court decision regarding the revocation of his bail, Justice Nyako clarified that she had reviewed the Supreme Court’s judgment and found no support for the lawyer’s assertion.

At present, Kanu remains vocal in his refusal to stand trial before any Nigerian court, vehemently asserting that any attempt to prosecute him would violate Nigeria’s Constitution and international laws.

Further details will follow as the situation develops.
