Senate President Akpabio Advises Davido to Stay Out of Politics

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged renowned Afrobeat artist Davido to steer clear of political involvement. The advice was given during Davido’s courtesy visit to Akpabio in Abuja on Monday.

Expressing his admiration for Davido, Akpabio commended the singer for his contributions to Nigeria’s global image. He highlighted the inclusive nature of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing unity across party lines and the importance of national interest.

Akpabio’s Address:

“For me and for the government of President Bola Tinubu, it’s an inclusive administration, and you must have noticed in my various outings that we move as one across party lines. Even though your administration is a PDP, one thing that is common to all of us is the interest of this country. And it is a country that has given you so much love,” Akpabio remarked.

Akpabio urged Davido to continue being a great ambassador for Nigeria through his music and to avoid being entangled in politics. “The country’s population is unmatched anywhere else in Africa, over 240 million Nigerians. So I urge you to remain a great Ambassador of our country. Continue to do your best in the entertainment industry and don’t allow anybody to drag you into politics.”

He assured Davido of the political sector’s support for the entertainment industry, valuing the talents that contribute to Nigeria’s cultural and global influence. “For us in the political arena, we value talents. We will do everything possible to support the entertainment industry and talented people like you. All we need is patience and prayers for us to succeed,” Akpabio stated.

Davido’s Response:

During the visit, Davido shared the purpose of his visit and his ongoing efforts to contribute positively to society. “As for me, I’m doing my part to assist society. I have a Foundation where I share N300 to N400 million to the orphanages yearly. And I have a new album coming out in June or July of this year. I just thank you for everything you have been doing for us,” the singer said.

Davido was accompanied by his cousins, Tunji Adeleke and Folasade Adeleke, underscoring the family’s involvement in various societal contributions.

Conclusion:

The interaction between Senate President Akpabio and Davido highlights the recognition of cultural figures in shaping Nigeria’s image and the importance of maintaining focus on their craft. Akpabio’s advice aims to keep influential personalities like Davido dedicated to their art while supporting national unity and progress.
