Manchester United yielded two late own goal to permit Sevilla to grab a 2-2 attract the first leg of their Europa League final at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Erik ten Hag’s team took control of the match with a quick double from Marcel Sabitzer in the first half, but Sevilla, the Europa League champions a record six times, pulled one back in the 84th minute.

At this point, Jesus Navas’s shot deflected off of goalkeeper David de Gea and into the net.

Youssef En-Nesyri’s stoppage-time header that bounced off Harry Maguire and into the goal gave Sevilla a huge boost ahead of next week’s second leg, reducing Manchester United to 10 men.

“I think we had the game in hand” Ten Hag told correspondents.

“We should have scored three or four. . . and then some unlucky moments with injuries. We then conceded two own goals and that’s bad luck.

“We have to deal with it. Of course, we have to learn that we have to kill the game.”

In the 14th minute, Sabitzer, who is playing for United on loan from Bayern Munich, controlled a precise pass from Bruno Fernandes and shot past keeper Bono to score his first goal in Europe.

Seven minutes later, the Austrian added a second goal by grabbing a good pass from Anthony Martial and finishing well.

But Sabitzer said it was hard to say anything after his team’s late collapse.

Sabitzer said.” We had to win the game because we didn’t want it to end in a draw, so we had to go to Seville and win there.

“We had to finish the game off, it’s a draw, was not what we wanted, have to go to Seville and get it down there.

“We had the chances, we were confident in the game and I think we controlled the game, but unfortunately we gave easy goals away.”

Martinez seemed to experience a serious lower leg injury and was carted away the pitch by two Sevilla players who are his Argentina partners.

After winning the League Cup, United was vying for their second trophy of the season and thought they had scored shortly after the game started. However, Jadon Sancho’s shot was disallowed for offside.

Despite being outplayed in the first half, Sevilla, which is in the bottom half of La Liga, nearly scored before the break.

Raphael Varane cleared Tianguy Ninazou’s close-range header off the line when De Gea stopped it.
