Tragic Accident in Osun State Claims Four Lives, Sparks Mob Violence
A devastating road accident in Ode-Omu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, has resulted in the deaths of a mother, her two children, and another individual. The incident occurred around 6 am on Saturday, when a car traveling from Osogbo to Ibadan lost control and collided with a motorcycle carrying the victims.

The motorcycle victims were heading to Oogi, a neighboring community, when the car, allegedly speeding, hit them. According to eyewitnesses, the car hit a bump, lost control, and rammed into the motorcycle. The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of all four motorcycle passengers.
Mob Reaction
In the aftermath, local residents, enraged by the tragic loss, attacked the occupants of the vehicle. While one of the car’s occupants managed to escape, the remaining two were seized by the mob. Efforts to calm the situation were made by Tope Abiola, the Dean of Students Affairs at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, who confirmed that the car’s occupants were students from the institution.
Police Intervention
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola. Opalola provided further details:
- Cause of Accident: The vehicle reportedly hit a bump, lost control, and collided with the motorcycle.
- Vehicle Registration: The involved vehicle had the registration number BDG 481JD (Lagos).
- Immediate Actions: The driver fled the scene immediately following the accident.
- Aftermath: Despite efforts to calm the mob, the two remaining car occupants were set on fire. Police intervened to extinguish the fire and rescued the students, transferring them to a hospital in Osogbo. Normalcy has since been restored in the area.
