On Wednesday, drivers from ride-hailing services like Uber, Bolt, LagRide, and Indriver began a nationwide strike.
According to reports, the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transport Workers of Nigeria (AUATWON) issued the order for the strike.
Until the ride-hailing companies raise their base fares by 20%, AUATWON instructed the drivers to stay at home.
According to Kolawole Aina, the National Vice President of AUATWON for Southwest Nigeria, the drivers also intend to picket the offices of Uber in Victoria Island and Bolt in Lekki.

AUATWON requested that ride-hailing organizations increment tolls by at least 200%, among different requests.
Additionally, it demanded an end to the deactivation of drivers who refused to work due to the low fares and consequent unprofitability, as well as a 50% reduction in commission (Uber and Bolt collect a 20% commission on every ride).
In addition, the union sought the AUATWON’s recognition as their representative body.
