UBTH to Conduct Mass Burial for 270 Unclaimed Corpses
The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) plans a mass burial for 270 unclaimed corpses if they are not claimed within six weeks.
The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has announced its intention to conduct a mass burial for 270 corpses that remain unclaimed. Dr. Ehizogie Egbeobauwaye Adeyemi, the coordinator of mortuary services, revealed this during an interview in Benin City.
The corpses include 201 infants and 69 adults, with the contact details provided by the owners now invalid or unreachable. Dr. Adeyemi emphasized that if the corpses are not claimed within the six-week timeframe, the hospital will proceed with the mass burial.
The hospital management issued a statement informing the public of the impending action. The statement specified that the corpses include those of infants who have been in the mortuary since January 2023 and adults who have been there from April 2021 to December 2022. Owners of the corpses have been given a six-week notice from the date of the announcement to claim them.
