Lineker and Shearer Speculate Klopp’s Potential Return to Borussia Dortmund

Former England internationals Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have speculated that Jürgen Klopp, upon leaving Liverpool, might assume a future role as president of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Jürgen Klopp, who has been at the helm of Liverpool since October 2015, concluded his successful tenure with a final match victory on May 19. During his time at Anfield, Klopp led Liverpool to numerous victories and a third-place finish in the 2023-24 Premier League season with 82 points.

On the podcast “The Rest Is Football,” Lineker shared a rumor about Klopp’s next move: “I heard a little rumour that he might end up being president of Borussia Dortmund, which would be amazing. I think he will definitely take some time out because he’s genuine when he says he’s run out of energy. There will be a battle for him or they’ll be lining up in a year’s time.”

Shearer, agreeing with Lineker, added, “I heard the same, yeah.”

Klopp, who previously managed Borussia Dortmund before his stint at Liverpool, has a deep connection with the German club, making the speculation about his return as president a plausible scenario. Both Lineker and Shearer believe that Klopp, known for his passionate and energetic approach to football management, will likely take a break before considering his next professional move.
