Xavi picks ‘Lewandowski backup’ from Barca squad — he scored 7 goals last season

Xavi has decided to use Ferran Torres as Robert Lewandowski’s backup in the squad, per Sport

Barcelona will not sign a centre-forward to deputize for Lewandowski this summer until Vitor Roque arrives in 2024 or 2025. Hence, Xavi sees Ferran as the best option for that position.

Xavi tested his idea in the game against Arsenal by playing Ferran through the middle and the Spanish forward delivered by scoring. Plus the 23-year-old is one of the hardest working players in training.

However, there are rising questions about Ferran’s ability to finish off chances lately as he only scored 7 goals in 43 games last season.

What Xavi’s decision also means is that Ferran will not be sold this summer. That will sound like music to the ears of the attacker who has often come out to declare his intention to stay at Barca.
